Experience
I received my Bachelor of Science in Education and Human Ecology from Ohio State University. After graduation I moved to Los Angeles to volunteer for AmeriCorps where I was given the opportunity to become a mentor, tutor, and after school instructor. It was during my time with AmeriCorps that I began to see the true value of individualized education. While I find classroom teaching to be rewarding it can be difficult to offer each student the personalized care that can be so transformative. I most enjoy tutoring younger math students and older English and writing students, however, I have had significant success with many subjects. Some of the other courses I tutor include algebra 1, reading, writing, essay writing and editing, phonics, literature, grammar and mechanics, AP English Language and Composition, AP English literature and composition, and math. Additionally, I enjoy teaching test preparation strategies and techniques for students who may struggle with the standardized testing format. I have specific experience with ACT English, ACT writing, and ACT reading. However, the critical thinking and reading comprehension skills necessary are applicable for other language based standardized tests as well. When I'm not tutoring I enjoy hiking, running, reading, and playing sports.
